GS1 Cloud

The GS1 Cloud will combine brand-sourced product data thru the local product catalogues, such as GS1 Malaysia Member Product Databank and will also collect data directly for products not currently maintained in an existing source.

This centralised database is intended to house more than 100 million Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), along with six additional core product attributes that will deliver trusted product information that consumers demand. The 7 core product attributes include:

  • GTIN
  • Brand
  • Label description
  • Medium resolution image URL
  • Target market
  • Company name
  • Product classification (Brick Level)

The first cloud-based applications will be:

  1. GTIN Authentication: For companies that want to ensure proper identification of products within their system, GTIN Authentication confirms that the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) uses a GS1-assigned Company Prefix.
  2. Product Validation: For mobile apps and e-commerce sites that want to provide brand-originated product information, Product Validation provides all available attributes for a product identified by a GTIN.
  3. Search Function: For companies looking for new products to carry in their physical or online store, Search Function gives them the ability to discover new products by Global Product Classification (GPC) and target market.

The data in the GS1 Cloud will be available to retailers, e-tailers, marketplaces, apps and brand owners through an online portal and via application programming interfaces (APIs). It will be used in consumer-facing channels and to help sourcing decisions and will be analysed for data quality and digital usage. All data recipients of the GS1 Cloud must have a relationship with a GS1 Member Organisation to gain access.
