Non-Retail/Outer Case Carton Barcode Identification

Retailers throughout Malaysia have started work on improving their logistics efficiency by implementing barcode scanning for products being delivered to their distribution centres. Their suppliers are now required to comply with this requirement by implementing non-retail/outer case carton (OCC) barcode. GS1 Malaysia is committed to support and ensure that GS1 Malaysia members comply with the retailers’ requirement and the barcode identification numbers are correctly assigned.

GS1 Asia Pacific National Product Catalogue

There is an increasing consumer behaviour trend which involves mobile scanning of product barcodes. However, the problem that emerges is that many products, particularly imported goods do not provide satisfactory or sufficient information when scanned, resulting in a lack of consumer confidence.
GS1 Offices from Asia Pacific countries have come together to begin work on a product catalogue that sources quality data from GS1 members of “good standing”. The benefits to brand owners are:
•    Consumers being able to authenticate the product’s origin from GS1 members of “good standing”
•    Greater exposure of GS1 member products in the region
•    Increased consumer confidence towards products registered with the product catalogue

In order to ensure that your brand complies with new retailer requirements and fully realises the benefits of recent regional developments, we strongly encourage you to begin listing all products with the GS1 Malaysia Member Product Databank. In order to participate, please fill in this Excel document with both Retail and Non-Retail units produced by your company and email them to databank@gs1my.org. Please refer to this GPC listing to provide the product classification of each product as well. Thank you!
