Unauthorised (third-party) barcode numbers may clash with other brands, trigger customs delays, and jeopardise marketplace listings. GS1 Malaysia is the only body authorised to license GS1 barcodes in Malaysia. Keep your membership active and register every GTIN with us to guarantee global acceptance and supply-chain trust.

  • Small-Block Membership Licence — special licence for 10 unique GS1 barcodes (festive/seasonal or limited-run items); subject to GS1 Malaysia review and not sufficient once you need more than 10 numbers.
  • GLN Membership Licence — issues Global Location Numbers (GLN) for warehouses, outlets, and e-commerce fulfilment.

Subscribe to Verified by GS1 (VbG & GACSS)

Get your product identity right — first time, every time.

Verified by GS1 (VbG & GACSS) is the world’s only brand-neutral registry of core product data. Online marketplaces, retailers and brand owners rely on it to eliminate duplicate listings, correct bad data and fight counterfeits.

Why your company should subscribe?

  • Global trust: Your GTINs and product attributes are validated in a GS1-hosted registry used world-wide.
  • Marketplace compliance: Faster listing approval on platforms that require Verified by GS1 data.
  • Fewer returns & chargebacks: Accurate product specs mean fewer buyer disputes.
  • Simpler supply-chain onboarding: Retailers pull your data directly—no more spreadsheet chase.
  • Counterfeit deterrence: A public “single source of truth” that helps partners spot fake GTINs.

Get Ready for the EU Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR)

Beginning October 2025, companies trading in timber, rubber, palm oil, soy, cocoa, coffee and cattle (and products derived from them) must prove their supply chains are deforestation-free, legally produced and traceable down to specific plots of land.

GS1 identifiers—especially the Global Location Number (GLN)—provide a common, regulator-accepted way to tag every farm, plantation, factory or warehouse, while GS1 2D barcodes and Digital Link connect those IDs to live data 24 / 7.

  • Meet strict traceability and sustainability proof points
  • Simplify customs clearance for EU imports and exports
  • Turn compliance into a market advantage for eco-conscious buyers

For details on how GS1 Malaysia can help you comply, download the full briefing (PDF) .

Do You Export or Label Products for Mainland China?

China Customs now requires brand owners and exporters to submit their GS1 GTINs through the GAC Single Window platform before goods can clear port entry. GS1 Malaysia, via the VbG & GACSS support package, offers an end-to-end filing service so you stay compliant and protect your brand integrity.

  • Mandatory for products sold, distributed or relabelled in China using non-GS1 China barcodes.
  • Covers local Chinese companies, overseas exporters and non-Chinese brand owners with China branches.
  • Prevents counterfeit listings and speeds up customs clearance.

  • Malaysia – KPDN: active GS1 licence required on “Made-in-Malaysia” labels.
  • Malaysia – MOH & NPRA: GS1 barcodes recognised for pharmaceuticals and vaccines.
  • China Customs “Single Window”: GTIN reporting mandatory for many food imports.

2D Barcodes Is Replacing 1D Barcodes

Global retail and healthcare supply chains are moving to GS1 2D Barcodes because it carries far more information—expiry dates, batch numbers, serials—without taking extra label space. GS1’s roadmap targets full point-of-sale readiness for both legacy 1D and new 2D symbols by the end of 2027.

See how regulators and brand owners plan to use 2D codes for traceability, anti-counterfeit and sustainability reporting in our short briefing note. Download the brochure (PDF)

GLN: The “Passport Number” for Every Business Location

A GS1 Global Location Number (GLN) uniquely identifies factories, warehouses, stores and even e-commerce fulfilment points. That single ID powers smoother EDI, automated receiving, regulatory filings and emerging sustainability rules like EUDR and Digital Product Passports.

Sustainability and environmental responsibility have become top priorities for many upstream companies and brand owners.

GS1 standards contribute to supply chain visibility, product traceability, and carbon footprint reduction can appeal to organisations pursuing ESG goals via sustainable sourcing, and responsible waste management through accurate data capture and sharing.
