The GS1 2D DataMatrix can contain much more information and allows better traceability than a classic linear or 1D barcode symbol. It is also the preferred 2D matrix coding symbology by the pharmaceutical and medical device industry as it: |
- Captures the largest amount of data with the smallest footprint
- Enables the direct marking of trade items when labels are not practical (e.g. smaller medical / surgical instruments or require frequent sterilization)
- Can capture pertinent track & trace information such as batch or lot number and serial number, allowing for targeted product recalls
- Has built-in error detection and correction capabilities to increase the readability of barcoded symbols even with irregular packaging, when there is physical damage to a label or when a label is poorly printed.
GS1 2D Barcode Verification Services
The verification services will assist our members & non-members in assessing the accuracy of a symbol’s structure and its readability. Before our members & non-members distribute their products, they will have the chance to fix any issues with the barcode printing. In addition, our members & non-members will be able to ascertain if the Datamatrix coding they are using is in accordance with GS1 standards.
